“…everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25 NKJV).
“For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:16 ESV)
I was thinking about the season we are approaching as I began to read an Advent devotional. The word “rescue” came to mind. I agree! Jesus’ coming to us was the biggest rescue mission in history. I began to relate that to my thought patterns. I can’t tell you how many times a day I ask myself the question, “What am I going to do?” When I consider that question, I am seeking a solution and thinking about what “seems right in my own eyes” according to my finite mind. The finite solution will usually make me feel better about the situation or myself. Is that really what God wants for me? No! God came to rescue me from me, my fleshly thinking, and ways. Every “I” question I ask only leads me back to what I think is best for me or my pitiful attempts to erroneously rescue myself or others, which is finite thinking with my finite mind.
First Corinthians 2:16 assures me that I have the mind of Christ- an infinite mind. My mind, in union with the mind of Christ, now has infinite capabilities. I can think with Jesus, which leads me to what God wants of me. How do I get there? One question! “Lord, what do you want to do through me with this situation, circumstance, or relationship?” God’s goal for us is to make us and mold us into the image of Jesus Christ. Because of that, His answer may be far more than we can ask, think, or dare to imagine – quite different from how we think from our strength and fleshly reasoning. The point is that we don’t know what God’s solution is until we ask Him. That strengthens the intimate relationship with Him because we seek an infinite answer that only God can provide through the power of the Holy Spirit. By faith, we believe and walk in Truth. For everything God asks of us, He provides the faith, the Way, the grace, the words, the strength, the courage, etc. to do what He wants to do through us-THE RESCUE! So, yes! The Rescuer is a person, Jesus Christ.
“Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams] 21 To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it)” (Ephesians 3:20-21 AMPC).
As you “deck the halls” this Christmas, wrap your mind in the truth that Jesus has given you His mind. Seeking Jesus for the solution to any conundrum will lead you to the depths of intimacy with Him and the greatest “rescue” gift God can give you—making you and molding you into His image in His timing and His way. What an indescribable Gift! God wants you to live from His indescribable Gift of Jesus Christ. Invite Him In! He is the Fountain of Life and that is New Covenant Living.
“Now thanks be to God for His Gift, [precious] beyond telling [His indescribable, inexpressible, free Gift]” (2 Corinthians 9:15 AMPC).
