~ by Mark Maulding

Did you know that worry, anxiety, fear, anger, and exhaustion may be the results of fighting for control of unchangeable circumstances and relationships? Giving up control is not good enough and will not last. The flesh desperately desires to stay in control. What is the flesh? Good or bad patterns, we have learned to try to meet our basic needs in our own way for Love, Acceptance, Worth, and Security. The flesh can also be described as all the ways I’ve attempted to make my life meaningful apart from God. All of this unwittingly leads to a dependence on ourselves instead of Christ as our only legitimate Source of Life.

So how do we get there? The Holy Spirit is at work in every one of us to show us that the flesh’s control is bankrupt! Yet, that is only the beginning. He is equally working to reveal to us that we need to believe that our Father is working all things according to the counsel of His will:

“also we [b]have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will,” Ephesians 1:11 NASB

Notice that it says, “all things.”

We are assured that our Father, Who loves us, is in control of our lives more than we can imagine.

Can believing this cause us to become passive and irresponsible? No, because He wants us to know and depend on Christ in us as our one and only True Source of Life. Only then can we know the inner peace and rest that God is to us. Hebrews is very clear about this when it proclaims,

“9 So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.” Hebrews 4:9-10 NASB

Are you at peace and at rest today? If not, submit to God’s loving control and depend on Christ in you as your Life.
