Do you know how to unmask the lies you believe about who you are so you can step into the real you? Let’s jump into this.

In our culture, the word "identity " has been used as a diversion by Satan to keep us from focusing on our true identity. For example, when I taught on this topic to over 50 men recently, I asked them to share some ways the idea of identity is commonly used. They answered, "Gender Identity", “Identity Politics", and more. Yet, the concept of identity in God's culture is this. Our first birth identity made us a sinner in Adam. We had no choice in that identity. The second birth has been provided to us freely by Jesus Christ, but we must make a choice. The choice is to believe in him as our Savior or not. If we do, we are spiritually born a second time. This new spiritual birth is what now defines us in the deepest part of our being.

Satan whispers that we are defined by what we feel is true about us. Feelings become the barometer of truth. Sometimes, the voices around us tell us to accept our feelings as who we are, so trust them. Feelings are essential, but God tells us that the completed work of Jesus determines our identity for those who believe in him. We are his sons and daughters, even on the days when differently.

Another tactical lie is that we are victims of what has been done to us. There is no doubt that some have been victimized by terrible verbal, emotional, mental, and sexual abuse, and other awful things. Yet, the good news is that Jesus wants to heal you from the scars of such that your identity is not "victim". Instead, it is "victor" according to:

Romans 8:37 (TPT) "Yet even in the midst of all these things, we triumph over them all, for God has made us to be more than conquerors, and his demonstrated love is our glorious victory over everything!"

Believing you are broken is a big one! When I’ve asked people what they mean by this, they usually say things like the following. “ I’m hurting…messed up…struggling…defeated… stuck in my sin habit…not enough.” You may have issues, but be careful about taking on the identity of being a broken person. Your identity is complete in Christ, as stated here:

Colossians 2:10 (TPT) "And our own completeness is now found in him. We are completely filled with God as Christ’s fullness overflows within us. He is the Head of every kingdom and authority in the universe!"

Spend time this week renouncing Satan's lies and announcing God's truth about the identity he freely gave you in Christ! In other words, step into the real you!
